Richard S. Berk, MD, FACS
Dr. Berk is a surgical oncologist and is on staff at NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston, IL, where he holds the position of clinical associate professor of surgery at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Chicago. An experienced surveyor for the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Berk graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and completed an internship in San Diego, CA. His residency took place at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, and he completed a fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
in New York City.
Through his experience as a Commission on Cancer surveyor, Dr. Berk has been involved in raising the bar for quality healthcare, and feels that NAPBC Accreditation will serve to improve the quality of care for patients with diseases of the breast. In his spare time, Dr. Berk enjoys golfing, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren. |
Richard J. Bleicher, MD, FACS
Dr. Bleicher is a breast/surgical oncologist and co-director of the Society of Surgical Oncology-approved breast fellowship program at the Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia, PA, where he also serves as the primary breast surgeon for the breast center. Additionally, Dr. Bleicher is an assistant professor in the department of surgical oncology at the Fox Chase Cancer Center and serves on several institutional committees, including the Fox Chase Cancer Center information technology strategic planning committee. He is also a member of the Information Technology and Outcomes Committee for the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, which is currently working to develop a data collection and reporting mechanism that will communicate with the National Cancer Data Base. Dr. Bleicher graduated from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, completed a general surgical residency at the Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh, PA, and completed a surgical fellowship at the John Wayne Cancer Institute, Santa Monica, CA. Dr. Bleicher was born in Philadelphia and makes his home in Abington, PA. For recreation, he enjoys running and general fitness activities. |
Blake Cady, MD, FACS
Dr. Cady is a breast surgeon at the Cambridge Breast Center in Cambridge, MA. He graduated from Cornell University Medical School, New York, NY, completed a general surgical residency at the Boston City Hospital, Fifth Harvard Surgical Service, in Boston, MA, and completed a surgical fellowship at the Cornell University Medical College and the Sloan-Kettering Institute. He served as lieutenant in the US Navy Reserve Medical Corps. Dr. Cady holds an academic appointment of professor of surgery at the Brown University School of Medicine, Providence, RI. He has countless publications in the medical literature, has received numerous awards and honors from various institutions, and is internationally respected for his expertise in breast disease. Dr. Cady is a founding member of the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the NAPBC representing the American Society of Breast Disease. He is dedicated to the quality improvement efforts of the NAPBC and has served as a pilot surveyor during the formative period of the NAPBC. Dr. Cady’s hometown is Brookline, MA, where he currently resides. His leisure time is spent sailing and traveling the world. |
Anees B. Chagpar, MD, FACS
Dr. Chagpar was born and educated in Alberta, Canada. She received her medical degree at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskotoon, Canada, and a master’s degree in public health at Harvard University, Boston, MA. Her postgraduate education includes a general surgery residency at the University of Saskatchewan and a breast cancer fellowship at the University of Texas at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Chagpar is an assistant professor at the University of Louisville in Kentucky where she is a member of the department of surgery, division of surgical oncology. She is also the director of the multidisciplinary breast program at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center in Louisville. Additionally, Dr. Chagpar is a member of multiple local, national, and international professional organizations. |
Lori Chapleskie Alfonse, DO, FACOS
Dr. Chapleskie Alfonse is a board-certified, fellowship-trained breast surgeon who received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Her internship and residency were completed at Mercy Suburban Hospital and she completed a breast surgery fellowship at the Bryn Mawr Hospital.
She currently serves as the medical director of the breast Program as well as the American College of Surgeons’ Cancer Liaison Physician for the Cancer Committee at Mercy Suburban Hospital in Norristown, PA.

Runi Chattopadhyay, MD, FACS
Dr. Chattopadhyay is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and a general surgeon. She received her medical degree from McGill University Medical School in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where she went on to complete her internship, and residency. Dr. Chattopadhyay completed a breast surgery fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. She is chair of the cancer care center of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Palo Alto, CA, where she participates on numerous cancer care committees and is the principal investigator for several clinical studies involving early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Additionally, Dr. Chattopadhyay is an attending physician at Stanford University Hospital, Palo Alto. She is also a regular volunteer for a not-for-profit resource center for people facing breast cancer in the San Francisco peninsula. Dr. Chattopadhyay enjoys running and playing the piano in her spare time. |
James L. Connolly, MD, FCAP
Dr. Connolly is a pathologist at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA. He received his medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN. He completed his internship and residency at the Beth Israel Hospital/Harvard Medical School and went on to complete a National Institutes of Health Research Fellowship in pathology at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston. Academically, Dr. Connolly holds the position of professor of pathology at the Harvard School of Medicine, Boston, MA. He was the director of anatomic pathology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center from 1991 to 2006, and currently serves as the director of the pathology residency program, and chair of the committee on anatomic pathology certificate program for breast pathology of the College of American Pathologists. In addition to his appointment as senior pathologist at the Beth Israel Hospital, he is a staff pathologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, and serves as a consultant to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, also in Boston.
Dr. Connolly serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, representing the College of American Pathologists. Since 1981, his primary research interest has been focused on the breast disease, specifically, pathologic factors important for breast conservation, and benign breast changes associated with breast cancer risk with the Nurses Health Study. |
Marlene Cutitar, MD, FACS
Dr. Cutitar is clinical assistant professor of surgery at Brown University Medical School, Providence, RI, and a general surgeon. She is a graduate of Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University, where she also completed her internship and general surgery residency. Dr. Cutitar is currently in solo practice and operates out of Miriam Hospital in Providence, where she serves on numerous committees.
Dr. Cutitar is active locally, regionally and nationally in various organizations including membership in the New England Surgical Society and the American Society of Breast Surgeons. She is immediate past president of the Rhode Island Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and serves on the boards of the American Medical Women's Association, the Rhode Island Medical Women's Association, as well as the executive council of the Rhode Island Medical Society and the board of the Office of Women in Medicine and Science at the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University. James R. Daniel, MD
Dr. Daniel is a fellowship-trained surgeon and the medical director of oncology services at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, VA, where he is also the Chair of the hospital’s Commission on Cancer-affiliated Cancer Committee. He received his medical degree at Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, LA and completed an internship and general surgery residency at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, TX. He also completed a surgical oncology fellowship at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. In addition to his professional appoint-ments, Dr. Daniel serves as a surveyor for the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Accreditation Program.
Dr. Daniel believes that Centers accredited by the NAPBC will benefit from the accreditation program’s recognition and the facilities’ own dedication to providing quality breast healthcare, and that NAPBC Accreditation will be a recognizable marketing tool in the very near future.

Larry D. Dillon, MD, FACS
Dr. Dillon is a general and oncologic surgeon affiliated with Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. A graduate of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, he completed an internship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH) at Washington University Medical, St. Louis, MO, and his residency at BJH and the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Additionally, Dr. Dillon completed fellowship training through New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, New York City. He became a surveyor for the Commission on Cancer in 2008 as a testament to his commitment to oncology. He believes accreditation allows cancer programs to demonstrate their excellence in oncology care. In his spare time, Dr. Dillon enjoys the culinary arts, photography, and woodworking. |
Charles Elboim, MD, FACS
Dr. Elboim is the medical director of the Redwood Regional Breast Center and director, breast surgical services, at the Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa (CA). He holds appointments at the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa, and the Sonoma Valley Hospital. Dr. Elboim graduated from the University of Vermont College of Medicine, Burlington, and completed a general surgery residency at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, MA. He holds the academic appointment of clinical assistant professor at the University of California at San Francisco and associate in surgery at the Sonoma Valley Hospital. His major interest is in diseases of the breast, including minimally invasive breast biopsy techniques, breast endoscopy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, skin sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction, oncoplastic breast surgery, and new imaging modalities. Dr. Elboim lives in Santa Rosa, and he enjoys reading and traveling in his spare time. |
Mahmoud El-Tamer, MD, FACS
Dr. El-Tamer is a surgical oncologist who received his medical degree at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He completed his internship and residency at the American University of Beirut Medical Center and extended his educational training to include specialization in surgical oncology and reconstruction in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, where he also completed a research fellowship.
Dr. El-Tamer is an associate professor of surgery at the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in New York City, and is currently the interim chief of breast surgery at Columbia University. He also serves as the director of the breast fellowship program and as the medical director of the Columbia University Breast Center at Palisades Medical Center.

James L. Frank, MD
Dr. Frank is the director of surgical oncology at Saint Francis Medical Center in Hartford, CT. He holds hospital appointments at Saint Francis Medical Center, Bay State Medical Center, and Mercy Hospital. Dr. Frank graduated from the University of Cincinnati (OH) College of Medicine, completed a surgical residency at the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, and completed a general surgery fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA. Robert M. Flanigan, MD, FACS
Dr. Flanigan, a surgical oncologist, received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and completed an internship and residency at Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, IL. He is currently the Cancer Liaison Physician and a member of the Cancer Committee at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, IL.
Dr. Flanigan is a surveyor for the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Accreditation Program and has enjoyed visiting programs since 2004. He looks forward to providing his expertise in breast care to programs applying for accreditation with the NAPBC and believes that breast centers will benefit from standards that provide quality care and benchmarks for treating breast disease.

Irene Gage, MD
Dr. Gage is the director of radiation oncology at Sibley Hospital in Washington, DC, and co-director of the Sibley Hospital Breast Center. She received a master’s degree in science from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, graduated medical school from Boston (MA) University, completed a radiation oncology residency at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, and completed a breast cancer fellowship at the Beth Israel Hospital, Boston, MA. Her primary interest is in breast cancer and she has contributed to the peer-reviewed medical literature. Dr. Gage lives just outside the Washington, DC, area and enjoys cooking and traveling in her spare time. |
Jennifer Gass, MD
Dr. Gass is a general surgeon who specializes in breast health care at the Women’s & Infant Hospital of Rhode Island, Providence. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland Medical School, Baltimore. Her current hospital/academic appointments include assistant professor of surgery and assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Warren Alpert Medical School, Brown University, Providence. Jay K. Harness, MD, FACS
Dr. Harness is a board certified general surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Peter Hopewood, MD, FACS
Dr. Hopewood is a general surgeon in private practice affiliated with Falmouth Hospital in Falmouth, Massachusetts. He is a graduate of the University of Vermont and completed his internship and residency at Harvard 5th Surgical Service at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He became a surveyor for the Commission on Cancer in 2008 to improve cancer care. He believes accreditation shows cancer patients the facilities commitment to improving cancer care. Cary Kaufman, MD, FACS
Dr. Kaufman is a board certified general surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). He serves as the medical director at the Bellingham (WA) Breast Center. Dr. Kaufman is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Washington. He is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Washington. Dr. Kaufman is an officer of the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and previously was the president of the National Consortium of Breast Centers. Dr. Kaufman also serves as a representative to the ACS Commission on Cancer. He has published over 40 articles and abstracts on the diagnosis and management of breast cancer and has given over 130 lectures on varied aspects of breast care both nationally and internationally. He pioneered the development of cryoablation for benign and malignant breast tumors. Dr. Kaufman and his wife live in Bellingham. |
Patricia Rae Kennedy, MD, FACS
Dr. Kennedy, a general surgeon, received her medical degree, completed an internship, and a residency at the Stony Brook School of Medicine, State University of New York, Stony Brook. She went on to complete a breast diseases surgical fellowship at the Faulkner Breast Centre in Boston, MA.
Dr. Kennedy is an assistant professor of clinical surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, and currently serves as the medical director of the coordinated breast care services at the Clarian North Medical Center in Carmel, IN. When asked why she wanted to get involved in the NAPBC, she explained, “I believe in programs that can raise the bar for breast care across the United States.” She believes that the NAPBC will do just that. In her spare time, Dr. Kennedy’s hometown is Zionsville, IN, and she enjoys photography, when time permits. |
Julie Kepple, MD
Dr. Kepple is a fellowship-trained breast surgeon and an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She received her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine, Greneda, West Indies. Dr. Kepple completed a surgical residency at the Easton Hospital in Easton, PA, and completed a breast fellowship sponsored by the Society of Surgical Oncology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock.
When asked why she wanted to become involved in the NAPBC, Dr. Kepple said, “I firmly believe in its mission.” She currently works in the Aurora Healthcare System in Wisconsin and is based in the Milwaukee area. |
Scott H. Kurtzman, MD, FACS
Dr. Kurtzman, a surgical oncologist, received his medical degree from the Albany Medical College of Union University in Albany, NY, and went on to complete a general surgery residency at both the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark. He completed a surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
Dr. Kurtzman is a professor of surgery in the department of surgery at the University of Connecticut Health Center, Farmington. He is also the director of surgery and the program director for the surgical residency program at the Waterbury Hospital in Waterbury, CT.

Roberto E. Kusminsky, MD, MPH, FACS
Dr. Kusminsky is a board certified general surgeon, who received his medical degree at the University of Buenos Aires in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He completed a surgical internship and residency training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Medical College of Pennsylvania, both in Philadelphia, respectively. He went on to complete a colorectal residency from Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, TX. He was one of the researchers involved in the University of Vermont original study of sentinel node identification with a radiotracer, and later became a core trainer for the NASBP B-32 breast protocol. Dr. Kusminsky currently serves as the clinical director for quality improvement for surgical services at West Virginia University-Charleston Area Medical Center, and he is the medical director of the institution’s breast center. He currently holds the position of professor of surgery at the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center, Charleston, where he now practices breast surgery exclusively. |
Beth-Ann Lesnikoski, MD, FACS
Dr. Lesnikoski is a general surgeon, who received her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA, and completed her internship in General Surgery at the Deaconess/Harvard Surgical Service, Boston, MA. She went on to complete her surgical residency at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, WA, and at the Deaconess/Harvard Surgical Service, where she undertook her chief residency. Dr. Lesnikoski completed a fellowship in diseases of the breast at the Faulkner Breast Centre, Faulkner Hospital in Boston, MA.
Dr. Lesnikoski is a volunteer assistant professor at the University of Miami (FL) Miller School of Medicine, a lecturer for the Florida Atlantic University Medical School, and holds an academic appointment as instructor at Harvard Medical School. In addition to serving as medical director of the Breast Institute at the JFK Medical Center in Atlantis, FL, she is a staff surgeon at the Palms West Hospital in Loxahatchee, FL, as well as Faulkner Hospital Brigham & Women’s Hospital, and Dana Farber Cancer Institute, all located in Boston. She enjoys bicycling, gardening, and traveling when time permits. |
Donna-Marie Manasseh, MD, FACS
Dr. Manasseh, a surgical oncologist, received her medical degree from the Harvard University Medical School, Boston, MA, and completed an internship and residency training at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia Campus. She went on to complete a breast surgical oncology fellowship at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Academically, she holds the position of assistant clinical professor of surgery at Columbia Presbyterian University. Dr. Manasseh is the co-director of the Stamford Hospital’s Women’s Multidisciplinary Breast Center in Stamford, CT.

Shahla Masood, MD, FCAP
Dr. Masood is a pathologist and a Fellow of the College of American Pathologists. She received her medical degree at the Shiraz University School of Medicine, Shariz, Iran, and completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University Medical Center’s Jacksonville Health Education Program in Jacksonville, FL. She currently holds the academic position of professor of pathology and associate chair in the department of pathology at the University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville. Dr. Masood is the chief of pathology and laboratory medicine at Shands in Jacksonville, FL, where she is also director of the residency and fellowship program in the department of pathology at the University of Florida, Jacksonville, as well as being involved with other programs within the institution.
Dr. Masood is recognized nationally and internationally through her work in pathology and believes that pathology is the primary factor in accurate diagnosis, which drives treatment. She is pleased to be involved in the NAPBC and believes that awareness improves quality. |
Sally S. Mattingly, MD, FACS
Dr. Mattingly, a general surgeon, is a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, TN, and completed an internship and residency at Vanderbilt University Affiliated Hospitals, Nashville. Dr. Mattingly previously held an academic appointment as associate professor of surgery in the department of surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. She currently works at Surgical Associates, S.C. in Wausau, WI and works out of Aspirus Wausau Hospital where she has served as chairman of the department of surgery, co-medical director of the Aspirus Women’s Breast Health Center, president of the medical staff, and is currently serving on several hospital committees. William H. Meyerson, MD, FACP
Dr. Meyerson is a retired medical oncologist and current member of the Boca Raton (FL) Community Hospital institutional review board. He is a graduate of New York Medical College, Valhalla, and completed an internship and residency at Misericordia Hospital Medical Center in New York and fellowship training at Albany Medical Center in New York and the University of Miami. He holds the academic rank of affiliate clinical assistant professor of biomedical science at Florida Atlantic University and the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine of the University of Miami. He is currently a partner physician at the Southern California Permanente Medical Group, Pasadena, and an attending surgical oncologist with Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills Campus, Woodland Hills, CA. Dr. Nora lives in Westlake Village, CA, and enjoys playing the piano, music, digital photography, and videography when time permits. |
Claro L. Pio Roda, MD, FACS
Dr. Pio Roda is a board certified general surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). He specializes in breast cancer and laparoscopic surgery. He is a graduate of the University of the Phillipines College of Medicine, and he completed an internship and residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, MD, and a fellowship training at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore. He holds the academic appointment of instructor in the department of surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Pio Roda has served as a surveyor for the ACS Commission on Cancer program since 2000. Dr. Pio Roda lives in Lutherville, MD, and enjoys golf, travel, reading, and volunteering in his spare time. |
Rakhshanda Layeequr Rahman, MD, FACS
Dr. Rahman, a general surgeon, is the director of Amarillo Breast Center of Excellence and director of Breast Health Services at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Amarillo, where she also serves as associate professor of surgery. Dr. Rahman graduated from Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan, MBBS, and completed a general surgery residency and a fellowship in breast and general surgery. She also completed a surgical oncology fellowship in the division of surgical oncology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock. She is also the recipient of the American Society of Clinical Oncologists endowed Chair of Excellence in Women’s Health. Dr. Rahman lives in Amarillo, and enjoys interior design in her spare time. |
William P. Reed, MD, FACS
Dr. Reed is the chair of the department of surgery at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, NY. He is a surgical oncologist that specializes in breast, gastrointestinal, head and neck, sarcoma and skin cancers. He is a graduate of Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, and he completed a residency and internship at Stanford University Hospital in Palo Alto, CA, and fellowship training in Paris, France. He has served as a surveyor for the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer since 2000 and believes accreditation provides feedback to institutions regarding quality of care and adherence to treatment guidelines associated with optimal care. His favorite aspect of accreditation is maximizing integration of the full range of cancer services. Dr. Reed lives in Sea Cliff, NY, and enjoys reading, hiking, chasing solar eclipses, and maps in his spare time. |
Terry Sarantou, MD
Dr. Sarantou is a board certified general surgeon at the Blumenthal Cancer Center at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He graduated with his medical degree from the University of Illinois, completed a surgical residency at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, and pursued a surgical oncology fellowship at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, CA. Dr. Sarantou holds an academic appointment of associate clinical professor of surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He currently serves as the North Carolina State Chair for the ACS cancer liaison program and as the Cancer Committee Chair. After having grown up in Beloit, WI, Dr. Sarantou and his family now enjoy their home in Charlotte. |
John W. Shook, MD
Dr. Shook is a board certified general surgeon who serves as the system medical director at Saint Luke’s Cancer Institute Centers for Breast Health Care in Kansas City, MO and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Shook graduated with a Medical Degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine and completed a surgery residency at Truman Medical Center, University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. He holds and academic appointment as Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Medicine. He has organized and established three comprehensive breast centers in the Saint Luke's System of four major hospitals. He is an active member of American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG), American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBS), Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO), and American Society of Breast Disease (ASBD). He has more than 20 years experience in general surgery and a focused breast practice of 15 years. He is certified by the ASBS in both stereotactic and ultrasound procedures. Dr. Shook now makes his home in Mission Hills, Kansas, where he enjoys biking, fishing, family trips and music. |
Randy Stevens, MD
Dr. Stevens is a board certified radiation oncologist and serves as the director of radiation oncology at the Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center at the White Plaines (NY) Hospital Center. Dr. Stevens received a medical degree from the New York (NY) University School of Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine at the Bellevue Hospital/New York University Medical Center and a radiation oncology residency at the New York University Medical Center. She is an assistant professor of radiation oncology in the department of radiation oncology at the New York University Medical Center and is a member of multiple committees at the White Plaines Hospital Center, including the cancer committee and the multidisciplinary breast conference. She makes her home in Scarsdale, NY, where she enjoys family and friends. |
F. Lee Tucker, MD
Dr. Tucker is a dedicated breast pathologist and President of Virginia Biomedical Laboratories, LLC providing expert pathology, breast program development and breast cancer research consultation services.
Dr. Tucker is immediate past Medical Director of the Carilion Breast Care Center and of the Carilion High-Risk Breast Genetics Clinic and Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of the Carilion Clinic where he was a charter member of the Carilion Clinic Board of Governors. He also served as a member of the Carilion Health System Board of Directors He is a member of the governing board of the Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Roanoke and Clinical Assistant Professor of Pathology at the Via School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Tucker received B.A. and M.D. degrees from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He completed residencies in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Virginia, a Fellowship in renal pathology and over 10 years of grant-funded research in the immuno-pathogenesis of renal disease. He served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Pathology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He established the first 3-D breast pathology laboratory and the second large-format breast pathology program in the United States, located at the Carilion Clinic.
Dr. Tucker has been instrumental in development of comprehensive breast centers, breast program quality management plans and breast disease databases. He serves as an at-large member of the NAPBC and is a member of the Quality Improvement and Measurement Committee and the Information Technology and Outcomes Committee.
For recreation, he enjoys sailing, scuba diving and snow skiing. |
Cheryl Ann Wesen, MD, FACS
Dr. Cheryl Wesen is a surgical oncologist with a special interest in breast cancer. Dr. Wesen is a board certified general surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Cheryl is a graduate of Cornell University and Temple University School of Medicine. She completed surgical residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Wesen also completed a two-year surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Wesen served in the U.S. Army for seventeen years and then practiced surgical oncology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Cheryl joined the medical staff of St. John Hospital in 1995. Dr. Wesen is currently the Vice Chair of Surgery at St. John and the President Elect of the medical staff. Dr. Wesen founded the St. John Providence Health System Breast Program and is the current medical director. Under Dr. Wesen’s leadership the breast program received NAPBC accreditation in 2009. Dr. Wesen is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Wayne State University. She is active in local and national Surgical Associations. Cheryl and her husband have raised three boys, now all in college. In her spare time Dr. Wesen enjoys reading, traveling, and gardening. |
Lori L. Wilson, MD
Dr. Wilson is a board certified general surgeon and serves as surgical director of the breast cancer program at the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, CT. Dr. Wilson received a medical degree at the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, completed a surgical residency at Howard University Hospital, and completed a surgical oncology fellowship at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, CA. Dr. Wilson is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She currently holds the academic appointment of assistant professor of surgery at the University of Connecticut Health Center. Dr. Wilson is actively involved in numerous committees at the University of Connecticut Health Center. |
David P. Winchester, MD, FACS
Dr. Winchester, a surgical oncologist, received his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical
School, Chicago, IL. He completed an internship at Evanston Hospital in Evanston, IL, and a residency at Northwestern University Medical Center, Chicago. He went on to complete a surgical fellowship at the M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute in Houston, TX. Dr. Winchseter is a professor of surgery at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago. He has a breast-specific practice at the Pat Nolan Center for Breast Health at Glenbrook Hospital, Glenview, IL, which is part of the NorthShore University HealthSystem (formerly known as Evanston Northwestern Healthcare).
Dr. Winchester serves as Medical Director of the National Cancer Programs at the American College of Surgeons, where he is also a surveyor for the Commission on Cancer. He is one of the founding members and Chair of the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, and as such, has dedicated himself to quality breast healthcare and believes that the NAPBC will help raise awareness and improve the quality of care for patients with disease of the breast.

Katharine Yao, MD
Dr. Yao is a surgical oncologist and a member of the division of general surgery at NorthShore University HealthSystem (formerly known as Evanston Northwestern Healthcare).
